Bayer 04 have reached the final of the domestic cup competition at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin four times. In 1993 the Werkself lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win against the Hertha Berlin Amateurs thanks to a goal from Ulf Kirsten. The other three finals ended in defeat in 2002 against Schalke 04 (2-4), in 2009 against Werder Bremen (0-1) and in 2020 against Bayern Munich (2-4).
Once again, the Werkself have completed an eventful season. The impressive phase on the pitch in 2020 is followed in the New Year by exits from the DFB Cup and the Europa League. Show moreBayer 04 are out of the DFB Cup at the Round of 16 stage. The Werkself were out of luck in the away tie at Rot-Weiss Essen with a 2-1 defeat after extra time. Leon Bailey put Bayer 04 in front (105'), Oguzhan Kefkir (108') and Simon Engelmann (117') turned the game round.
