Since promotion to the Bundesliga in 1978/79, Bayer 04 have remained in Germany's top flight. The Werkself have ended the season in second place five times. With the one exception of 2016/17 (12th position), the Black and Reds finished in the top five in the 2010s.

Alonso ahead of #B04BMG: “Great development under Seoane”
The games continue to come thick and fast for Bayer 04 as they follow Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Mainz with another Bundesliga fixture at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach this Saturday. Alonso ahead of #B04M05: ‘Opponents in top form’
With the home game against Mainz 05 tomorrow Tuesday, 14 January (kick-off: 20.30 CET at the BayArena and live on Sky) the Werkself are looking for a successful conclusion to the Hinrunde in the 2024/25 season. Ahead of the clash with the team in fifth place, head coach Xabi Alonso sounded a warning about an opponent in top form – both in defence and in attack.

Werkself continue away run with 2-0 win in Augsburg
Bayer 04 made it seven straight wins in all competitions with a 2-0 victory at Augsburg on Saturday. Martin Terrier and Florian Wirtz scored in the first half as the Werkself completed a whole calendar year without a Bundesliga away defeat and cut the gap to leaders Bayern Munich to four points.
