Season review, Part III – First Europe then Bender farewell

Once again, the Werkself have completed an eventful season. The impressive phase on the pitch in 2020 is followed in the New Year by exits from the DFB Cup and the Europa League. Head coach Peter Bosz had to go, a new coaching trio were asked to secure European qualification for Bayer 04 in the remaining eight Bundesliga matchdays. Part three of the 2020/21 season review.

Season review, Part II – Wolf follows Bosz

Once again, the Werkself have completed an eventful season. The impressive run in the first third of the season ends with a 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich just before Christmas. However, the Werkself are unable to rediscover the excellent form in the new calendar year and that has consequences for the coaching staff. Part two of the 2020/21 season review.

Season review, Part I – Top of the table for first time since 2014

Once again, the Werkself have completed an eventful season. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, few games were played in front of crowds and the season proved to be a rollercoaster ride on the pitch. We look back at the 2020/21 season in a three-part series.

The media are of one voice following the exit from the Europa League: Bayer 04 lost out to an opponent who deserved to go through.

Europa League - 25.02.2021

Werkself exit Europa League after 2-0 defeat

Bayer 04 have been eliminated from the Europa League in the Round of 32. The Werkself suffered a 2-0 defeat in the second leg against Young Boys Bern. The goals for the Swiss team was scored by Jordan Siebatcheu (47') and Christian Fassnacht (86'). Bayer 04 lost 4-3 in the the first leg.
