Since first qualifying for the competition in 1997, the Werkself have regularly taken part in Europe's premier club competition. Bayer 04 are in the Champions League for the twelfth time in the 2019/20 season and for the sixth time in the past eight years. The biggest success was reaching the 2002 final against Real Madrid in Glasgow.

Bayer 04 made it two wins from two in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League as they beat AC Milan 1-0 at the BayArena on Tuesday. After a dominant first half in which he’d also had a goal ruled out for offside, Victor Boniface netted the winner in the 51st minute.
