It was a game of two halves and a big battle. For a long time it looked like Bayer 04 were heading for a first defeat after a run of 34 games unbeaten across all competitions. For the first time this season, the Werkself were two goals down in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 away to Qarabag in Azerbaijan. And yet the team under Xabi Alonso again succeeded in demonstrating their comeback qualities in a challenging match in Baku on Thursday night. 2-2 at Qarabag – A late leveller for the Werkself
Bayer 04 earned a 2-2 draw in the Round of 16 first leg away to Qarabag with a determined approach to the end producing a deserved reward. After goals for the hosts scored by Yassine Benzia (26’) and Juninho (45+2’) in the first half, Florian Wirtz (70') and Patrik Schick (90+2') netted in the second 45 for the final 2-2 scoreline. That means the Werkself now remain unbeaten after 35 games across all competitions.
