Defensive all-rounder Josip Stanisic moved from FC Bayern to Leverkusen on a one-year loan in the summer of 2023. The Munich-born Croatian international is, according to sporting director Simon Rolfes, "already very experienced in the Bundesliga and Champions League, technically strong, intelligent in the game, ambidextrous and can be used in several defensive positions". The signing of the 2022 World Cup participant "will further intensify the competition in our squad", Rolfes added.
