The winger Nathan Tella arrived in the summer of 2023 from the English second division club Southampton and he can be used on both wings as well as a wing-back. He has signed a contract with Leverkusen to 2028 and will wear shirt number 19. Sporting managing director Simon Rolfes described Tella in the course of the signing as "a fast and goal-getting winger who already has a bit of experience, but still has development potential".

Tella: 'I've adopted the position 100%'
In the 3-2 away win at RB Leipzig, Nathan Tella had to come on for his injured teammate Jeremie Frimpong and minutes later he levelled the scores. The winger bagged a brace at SV Darmstadt 98 (2-0) to top off his first start in the Bundesliga. Tella also started in the big match against Bayern Munich (3-0) where he provided an assist. The 24-year-old appears to be up and running and increasingly understanding his role.
