Infection rate: 20.1 – 6,000 fans at Werkself home opener

A Bundesliga comeback for the Werkself fans after more than six months: As the seven-day infection rate in Leverkusen it's currently 20.1 (as at 25 September, 00.00 CEST) the first home game of the season against RB Leipzig will be played in front of 6,000 spectators. That number was agreed by Leverkusen City Council and Bayer 04 at the beginning of the week.

The German states decided to run a six-week test on Tuesday, 15 September. Accordingly, at events with over 1,000 spectators, 20 per cent capacity will be permitted nationwide. There is, however, one restriction. If the seven-day infection rate per hundred thousand inhabitants in the venue of Leverkusen is 35 or more and there is no clear limit to the spread of infection then the game will be played behind closed doors. Good news: The number in Leverkusen over the last seven days was below the threshold.

The available tickets for the clash with Leipzig were allocated at the start of the week among season-ticket holders who took out the 'Draw' option. Both the 'winners' and 'losers' have already been informed and the tickets sent out as print@home tickets. Click HERE for FAQs on the home game against RB Leipzig.
