"Nordi Mukiele is an athletic and fast defender," said Bayer 04 sporting managing director Simon Rolfes. "With his profile he fits in perfectly with our team, he has a lot of Champions League experience with 30 appearances and he can play at right-back or as a central defender as an experienced player. Of course, his knowledge of the Bundesliga is a big plus for us. After 100 league games for RB Leipzig, Nordi knows all about the ins and outs of German football and he will be able to settle in quickly and further improve the quality of our squad," said Rolfes.
"It's really great for me to return to Germany and also to join the Bundesliga champions," said the 1.87 metre tall Mukiele. "Being able to play in the Champions League with Bayer 04 is a special attraction. I'm just looking forward to giving my all for Bayer 04 both in Europe as well as in domestic competitions."
Jonas Hofmann won't be available again for German double winners Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the remainder of the calendar year.

The Bayer 04 Women are in the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal. The team led by coach Roberto Pätzold's beat Bundesliga rivals Turbine Potsdam 1-0 on Friday night thanks to a first competitive goal scored by Sophie Zdebel. The midfielder netted the only goal of the game on 74 minutes. Twelve days ago, the Werkself beat the Potsdam team 3-0 in the league.

The international break is followed by the run-in to the end of the year: The Werkself entertain FC Heidenheim at the BayArena tomorrow, Saturday 23 November (kick-off: 15.30 CET/live on Sky and on Werkself Radio), on Bundesliga Matchday 11. The fixture against FC Heidenheim is the first of eight games before Christmas.
