The fact Niklas Lomb ended up between the sticks is thanks to his godfather who once gave him a grey goalkeeper’s shirt with his first name on the back for Christmas. Lomb then changed to being a keeper with the youngsters at SC West Köln. He joined the Bayer 04 U17 squad in 2008 and, after loan spells at Halle, Münster and Sandhausen, he returned in 2019. He is an ambitious and loyal member of the goalkeeping set-up and he has his own ambitions too. Lomb played his first competitive match in goal for the Werkself in December 2012 in the Europa League home game against Rosenborg – and he kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win. Two Bundesliga appearances followed in the 2020/21 season.
Werkself players Nordi Mukiele and Niklas Lomb attended the Bayer 04 Football School on Tuesday afternoon. In the first week of the autumn half-term, the new signing and the long-serving goalkeeper answered numerous questions from over 100 young footballers at the kids press conference. After the round of questions, there was of course a group photo as well as an autograph session, where the duo didn't leave a single kit or boot unsigned.
Show moreNiklas Lomb has been at Bayer 04 for 16 years, joining at U17 level in 2008, and is now able to call himself a Bundesliga champion. After a few loan spells, the goalkeeper is a fixture of the Werkself first team and an “important part of our ambitious team”, according to Simon Rolfes. It’s been an emotional few days for the 30-year-old, who signed a contract extension through to 2027 earlier this month as well.
Show moreNiklas Lomb has signed a new three-year contract at Bayer 04, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season. The goalkeeper first joined the Werkself as a 15-year-old in 2008 and will now stay at the BayArena until 30 June 2027. Lomb has spent three seasons away on loan at 3. Liga sides Preußen Münster and Hallescher FC, as well as Sandhausen in Bundesliga 2.
Show moreThe primary school pupils won't forget this sports lesson in a hurry. As part of the 'District Matchdays' campaign, a Bayer 04 trio visited GGS Bergisch Neukirchen ahead of the Werkself's home match against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday (kick-off 18:30 CET). Players Niklas Lomb and Synne Skinnes Hansen along with men's goalkeeping coach David Thiel had a kickabout with the fourth-graders in the school gym on the fourth campaign matchday, which is all about Bergisch Neukirchen.
