Spanish centre-back Mario Hermoso joined Bayer 04 on a six-month loan at the end of January 2025. He joined the Werkself from AS Roma in Italy. He previously spent several years at Atletico Madrid and won the Spanish championship with the Rojiblancos. During his time at Atletico, Hermoso also played against the Werkself a total of four times. The results of the duels in the 2019/20 and 2022/23 Champions League group stages: one win, one draw, two defeats. Hermoso was in the starting XI in all four matches.
