The Belgian top talent Madi Monamay joined Bayer 04 in the summer of 2022. The central defender came to Leverkusen from top-flight Belgian club KRC Genk. The Belgium youth international played in the UEFA Youth League at the age of 15 and gained experience in the Genk U21 team before his move to Bayer 04. "Madi is a very intelligent central defender who is already very mature and calm for his young age," explained Thomas Eichin, Head of the Bayer 04 Performance Centre, at Monamay's signing.
