"The Women have earned the right to play on the stage of the BayArena after all these years," said Fernando Carro, Bayer 04 CEO: "The Pokal is a fitting occasion. We are looking forward to a great and hopefully successful football fest."
Thomas Eichin, the director of professional teams and therefore also responsible for the Bayer 04 Women’s team, said: "The team can hardly wait to play at the arena. We are very excited and hoping for a successful night on and off the pitch." In addition, the 57-year-old declared: "Of course, we are hoping for great support from our fans. But it's not about setting records but rather giving our women a platform in this important match and thereby bringing them further centre stage."
"There was huge joy amongst the players when we gave them the news after the home game against Hoffenheim," said Achim Feifel, sporting director of the women's team. "This important cup game against Essen is a big chance for us to gain even greater recognition by playing at the BayArena. We are looking forward to an exceptional evening that the girls hopefully won't forget in a hurry."
The Bayer 04 Women have twice won away en route to the quarter-finals. In the Round of 16 tie last November, they secured a 4-0 victory away to second division Hamburg SV. That was preceded in the second round by a 3-0 win at SV Meppen.
The only other time the Leverkusen Women played a match at the BayArena was in November 2009. The Werkself lost 2-0 against FCR 2001 Duisburg in a Round of 16 DFB-Pokal tie in front of a crowd of 3,000. The Women now have another knockout match at the BayArena after more than 14 years.
Tickets for the match are available now at the Bayer 04 online shop as well as by phone via the service centre (0049 (0) 214 5000 1904) and at the Bayer 04 shops at the BayArena and in the city centre. Tickets cost between €3 and €10. Blocks B1 to B4 will be released first and other blocks will be sold in turn as required. There will be no standing tickets. Blocks A1 to A3 are for the away fans. Fans, who already have tickets for the Ulrich Haberland Stadium, will automatically be reallocated to the BayArena without additional cost. All season cardholders for the men's and women's Bundesliga teams will receive a 100% discount code for the Women's DFB-Pokal game per season card held.
A training course for external coaches covering age groups U8 to U13 on 'Effective coaching in junior football' was held at the BayArena this week. The course, with this initial event ahead of a series of training units, was aimed at coaches and sporting management of clubs in the area of Leverkusen. It was very well received.

Show moreIn keeping with the Trophy Tour in Brazil starting today, Bayer04.de looks back at the long-standing link between the Werkself and Brazilian players. The list is long as well as impressive. 24 Brazilian players have worn the Bayer 04 Leverkusen jersey from 1987 to the present day. Tita was the first under the Bayer Cross having come to Germany after ten years at top Brazilian clubs Vasco da Gama, Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and Gremio Porto Alegre. He played a crucial part in the Werkself winning their first major trophy in that season: the UEFA Cup in 1988.
