This special stadium visit, including a great range of events, focused on making people aware of the subject of visual impairment. This unique day enabled Bayer 04 to demonstrate the club's social commitment.
Bayer 04 are trail blazers in the Bundesliga in terms of provision for the visually impaired. In 1999, Bayer 04 were the first club in the Bundesliga to have a special service for visually-impaired fans at home games. Since then, all supporters requiring that service are guided through the whole game by experienced match reporters who also describe everything that's happening on and off the pitch.
All the participants threw themselves into the "blind stadium experience" in the morning. Following a welcome address and a session to get to know each other it did not take long for the first, real football experiences to arrive. In addition to a tour of the stadium that enabled the youngsters to discover all the corners of the BayArena with the help of audio and braille support, the group took part in a game of non-sighted football under professional guidance. Curiosity and fun were written on the faces of everyone involved.
Rounded off by an entertaining and turbulent Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg, that the Werkself fans experienced to the full with the help of our reporters for the visually impaired, an exciting and unforgettable day with enduring impressions and lots of emotion.
The message from Bayer 04 Leverkusen for International Women’s Day on 8 March is already on 7 March: Today. Tomorrow. ALWAYS – Diversity under the Cross.
