The encounter between the top team from the banks of the Weser and the Black and Reds in third started with a one-on-one encounter between Kai ‘Deto’ Wollin and Werder’s Erhan ‘Dr Erhano’ Kayman. The pair drew 1-1 on PlayStation. "My defence was disorganised for the goal against. At the end of the day the draw's okay. But I wish I'd put on a better performance," said 'Deto'.
The second one-on-one game was a big match on Xbox: Leverkusen's Fabian ‘B04_Dubzje’ de Cae and Bremen’s Michael ‘Megabit’ Bittner brandished the controllers. The latter was champion of Germany in 2018/19 and currently leads the stats in the current season: The most goals, individual and double wins. However, #B04 eSports player ‘B04_Dubzje’ overcame his opponent in a 2-1 win to pick up first win of the night.
The Leverkusen players went into the final two-against-two clash with a fair amount of confidence. They led 1-0 and 2-1 but Bremen were able to equalise on both occasions. It was only in the closing stages that Kevin Volland, controlled by 'B04_Dubzje', scored the winner; the 7-1 overall win was sealed. "Fabi and I put on a really brilliant performance," rejoiced 'Deto'.
That means the top three in the VBL go further clear of their pursuers. Bremen remain top, Borussia Mönchengladbach are second level on points (both on 98). Bayer 04 follow with a deficit of two points and are nine points ahead of fourth-placed Hannover who have played one game less.
After the victory, 'B04_Dubzje' updated the target for the season: I was always the one behind the scenes who talked about the top six. But now, where there are only three games left and we're just two points behind the top team, we’re obviously fired up to challenge for the top spot. Now it's all or nothing!"
The Bayer 04 eSports team go into the third last matchday on Wednesday 12 February. They play the next to bottom team Wehen Wiesbaden from 20.30 CET.
The penultimate Bundesliga matchday of the calendar year marks the end of an eventful first half of the season for the Bayer 04 Women. The third showdown in the VBL Club Championship 2025/26 kicks off for the Leverkusen eSports team this Thursday, 11 December (live on the B04eSports Twitch channel from 19:00 CET). In the online preliminary round, the Black and Red will once again take on six previously drawn opponents for a place in the Top 16 and the associated entry into the offline knockout round, which will take place at this third showdown on 19 December in Cologne. With his late equaliser (88') in the Champions League clash against Newcastle United, the Spaniard rescued a point for the Werkself, who took the lead through an own goal by Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes (13') but went with two goals for the visitors scored by Anthony Gordon (51') and Lewis Miley (74'). The Werkself will be looking to continue their run in the Champions League against Newcastle United on Wednesday, 10 December (kick-off: 21:00 CET). For the first time ever, Bayer 04 have reached the knockout phase of the UEFA Youth League. At the end of the league phase, the Leverkusen U19s secured a 2-1 home win against Newcastle United on Wednesday, 10 December. Montrell Culbreath scored before half-time and Ferdinand Pohl doubled the lead after the restart in the clash with the English side. The UCL youth competition continues at the beginning of February with the Round of 32, which will be played away from home without a second leg.
