Gina Lückenkemper, sprinter with TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen and double medal winner at the recent athletics European Championships in Berlin, picked the Werkself out as the fifth-last ball in the draw held at the football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday evening for an away tie at league rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach. The second round of the cup will be played on 30 and 31 October – with four games at 18.30 CET and four at 20.45 CET on both nights.
That means that Heiko Herrlich's team can wreak revenge for yesterday's opening defeat in the Bundesliga in two months time. Last season, the Werkself knocked the Rhine rivals out of the DFB Cup – that came in the Round of 16 with a 1-0 victory just before Christmas at Borussia Park. "An exciting draw. Of course, we have good memories of the cup game last season. We want to repeat our success at Gladbach. It's a huge challenge," said the Werkself head coach after the draw. Gladbach beat Oberliga side BSC Hastedt 11-1 in the first round of the DFB Cup.
Tickets for the cup away game are planned to go on sale on 11 September.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen continue the journey with Business Club partners Conrad Conrad Profistore Hürth with a 12-month contract extension to the end of the current 2024/24 season. The sports tribunal of the German Football Association (DFB) has rejected Bayer 04's appeal against a replay of the Women's Bundesliga match at SC Freiburg (3-2). That's the outcome of a hearing at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt on Tuesday. Originally, SC had lodged an appeal against the match result.

Werkself players Nordi Mukiele and Niklas Lomb attended the Bayer 04 Football School on Tuesday afternoon. In the first week of the autumn half-term, the new signing and the long-serving goalkeeper answered numerous questions from over 100 young footballers at the kids press conference. After the round of questions, there was of course a group photo as well as an autograph session, where the duo didn't leave a single kit or boot unsigned.
