What the papers say: Bosz earns special mention

Following the 1-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the press praise the resilience of the Werkself after the loss of so many players – and note that Peter Bosz accomplished a feat that has not been seen in the Bundesliga in over five years.

“Bayer 04 Leverkusen achieved initial success after more than a month with the 1-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach,” reports the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger as they above all praise “the discipline and confidence shown at the start of the match by the Werkself weakened by many absent players and setbacks.”

“Leverkusen’s game more attractive”

RP Online adopted a very similar view in their report: “Leverkusen did not start like a team plagued by injuries and bad results. The visitors were on top in the opening minutes.”

The EXPRESS also saw the Werkself as the better team. “Leverkusen’s game was more attractive and their moves more fluent,” was the analysis in the journal, “but the Werkself had problems with their finishing.”

Victory without any substitutions

The approach of the Werkself is described in the Welt am Sonntag as follows: “Bayer looked to break through with fast moves down the flanks and had some good chances through Moussa Diaby (17’, 32’ and 45’) before Schick converted a rebound to make it 1-0 (77’).”

The BILD am Sonntag provides a very interesting insight: “With the 1-0 win at Gladbach, coach Peter Bosz not only secured his first win in six games. He also achieved that without making any substitutions. The last time that happened was by Köln’s Peter Stöger at HSV (1-1) on 7 February 2016.”
