The start of the week and Werkself coach Peter Bosz moved the first of two advertised open training sessions to the BayArena: And the outfield players put in a shift in the gym rather than on the training ground in the morning – only the goalkeepers completed their session under the direction of goalkeeping coach David Thiel outside in cold and damp weather. The meteorological conditions remained unchanged for the session in the early afternoon: Hailstones and rain accompanied the 60-minute session that involved individual passing drills.
Ahead of the first competitive match of 2019 against Gladbach, with tickets still available, the Werkself will have another open training session on Tuesday morning (10.30 CET) before a day off on Wednesday that will be followed by final preparations and fine tuning behind closed doors on Thursday and Friday.
Construction vehicles drove across the big car park at the BayArena in between and after the sessions on Monday. The reason: Training pitch number one is being resurfaced – more fine tuning here too.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen will have to manage without centre-back Edmond Tapsoba in the coming weeks. The Burkina Faso international returned to the Werkself from the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a muscle injury.
