He was presented with his medal by his teammates after the final whistle in the Bundesliga away game at SV Darmstadt 98 (2-0) with a link to the ARD Sportschau. Wirtz spoke to Werkself TV after the presentation of the medal: "I'm really happy to receive this award. It makes me proud. Perhaps I'll add another one at some point."
Head coach Xabi Alonso said in response to a question about the award for Wirtz: "I congratulated him, it was a fantastic goal. He's an exceptional player, a genius in tight spaces. He is still young and he has a lot to look forward to in the future."
Before Wirtz, Bernd Schuster also won the award for Goal of the Year when he was playing for the Werkself. His award-winning goal against Eintracht Frankfurt in 1994 was later voted Goal of the Decade in the 1990s.

The Bayer 04 Women shared the points in a 1-1 draw with FC Köln in an entertaining Rhine derby with lots of goalmouth action for both sides. The team led by coach Roberto Pätzold put in a great effort that deserved the three points particularly in the second half. The team next to bottom in the table, who took the lead before half-time, played with great passion and only conceded the equaliser scored by Cornelia Kramer (54') before the final whistle.

Where were you on 14 April 2024? – That question will probably be asked a lot in Leverkusen today. And can there be anybody in this city who doesn't have an answer to hand? Hard to imagine. That Sunday exactly a year ago was too special. Too big. Too stirring. Too incredible. Everybody will have their own personal memory of that historic day. As everybody was there somehow.
