Argentina secured a 1-0 victory over Chile in their second group match and thereby go through to the quarter-finals. The only goal of the game was scored by Lautaro Martinez, Exequiel Palacios did not come off the bench against Chile. The Albiceleste are currently top the group ahead of Canada, Chile and Peru, who Argentina face in their third and final group match.
Ecuador played Jamaica in their second group game. Piero Hincapie was in the starting line-up and scored the opening goal on 13 minutes. Close to the corner flag, the Leverkusen defender sent in a cross but it was deflected by Jamaica's Kasey Palmer taking the ball behind goalkeeper Jahmali Waite and into the far corner of the net. Ecuador doubled their lead from the penalty spot with Jamaica scoring in the second half to make it 2-1. The first win for Ecuador at this Copa América was sealed by a strike in added time for the final score of 3-1. Hincapie played the full game.
The win gives Ecuador their first three points in the current tournament and thereby maintains a chance of going through to the knockout rounds. Hincapie and Co. are currently second behind Venezuelan who have already qualified for the quarter-finals. Mexico are in third place and they are Ecuador's opponents in the last group match.
