Julian Alvarez opened the scoring on 22 minutes against Canada, who the Albiceleste played in the opening match in the Copa América. Lionel Messi doubled the lead on 51 minutes for the final score of 2-0. Exequiel Palacios came off the bench on 78 minutes.
Werkself player Palacios, who won the Copa América with Argentina in 2021 and went on to win the World Cup in 2022, will face either Uruguay or Colombia with the Albiceleste in the final. The final of the Copa América will be played overnight from Sunday 14 July to Monday 15 July at 02.00 CEST.
Argentina cannot only retain the title in the final but also become the record winners of the tournament. The Albiceleste and Uruguay have both won the Copa América 15 times to date.
