Argentina had slight problems at the start of the game against a Colombia side alert in defence and ambitious in attack. Although there were plenty of chances for both sides the match went into extra time with scoreline at 0-0. Substitute Lautaro Martinez netted the winner on 112 minutes to retain the Copa América for the Albiceleste. Exequiel Palacios did not feature in the game.
For Werkself player Palacios, who won the Copa América in 2021 and the World Cup in 2022 with Argentina, this is the third international title in succession.
Argentina are now the record winners of this international tournament. The Albiceleste have clocked up the sixteenth Copa América with Argentina and Uruguay previously level on 15.
