Baumgartlinger faces possible long-term lay-off

Bayer 04 Leverkusen may be faced with the long-term absence of midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger. The Austria captain has a suspected serious knee injury, which the 33-year-old suffered in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with VfL Wolfsburg (0-1).

Baumgartlinger is consulting a Munich-based knee specialist on Sunday afternoon in discussion with the Bayer 04 medical section. That should provided final clarity on the type and degree of the injury as well as the necessary treatment and rehab.
