International update: Diaby makes debut for France
The international break has started: Five Werkself players were in action on Wednesday night. It was a very special evening for Moussa Diaby.
Congratulations, Moussa. The 21-year-old made his debut for the France senior team in Strasbourg on Wednesday night. France coach Didier Deschamps called up the Werkself number 19 to his squad for the first time. Diaby started on the bench for the World Cup qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the closing stages of the game, the France coach called over the winger to bring him on. Diaby came on for Kylian Mbappé on 90 minutes with the score at 1-1 as he made his debut for the Equipe Tricolore. The match ended all square.
The Finnish Werkself players also started on the bench. First choice keeper Lukas Hradecky was rested for the friendly against Wales and he was replaced by Carljohan Eriksson in Helsinki. Joel Pohjanpalo was also a substitute at the start of the game – he was brought on on 73 minutes but was unable to change the 0-0 scoreline.
Russia, without Andrey Lunev between the sticks, drew 0-0 with Croatia in Moscow in the first World Cup qualifier in Group H. Greece lost 3-1 against Switzerland and friendly and Panos Retsos did not feature in Basel.

Home kit debut: Women’s team win friendly against Genk
With 22 days to go until the start of the Bundesliga campaign, the Bayer 04 Women’s team have gained a fresh boost of confidence. In a friendly against Belgian top-flight side KRC Genk on Saturday afternoon, coach Roberto Pätzold’s team secured a 1–0 win. Werkself beat Essen 3-0 in friendly ahead of preseason training camp
A successful fourth preseason friendly ahead of the start of the training camp: The Werkself secured a 3-0 victory over Rot-Weiss Essen at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium. The goals in what was a commanding and dominant performance by Leverkusen from the outset were scored by Ibrahim Maza (8'), Patrik Schick from the penalty spot (23’) and, in the second half, Montrell Culbreath with a header (79’). The team set off for their training camp in Blankenhain in the Weimarer Land region after the game.

Rudi recounts…: Vollborn August highlights
Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993). Werkself Team of the Quarter-Century: Wirtz and Alonso top the poll – Tapsoba and Rolfes in starting XI

Tillman back in Leverkusen after World Cup with the USA
