It wasn't to be: after a highly emotional journey in the UEFA Europa League, Bayer 04 lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the final, also ending the run of 51 competitive games without defeat. Everything was set up for a historic day for the Black-and-Reds: 12,000 fans supported the Werkself in Dublin, getting into the spirit long before kick-off and also creating a brilliant atmosphere in the stadium. 3-0 defeat - Werkself downed by Atalanta in the Europa League final
The Werkself have lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final. There was no way through for Bayer 04 against a very vigilant Italian defence. Ademola Lookman scored the goals for the Bergamo side in the 12th, 26th and 75th minutes. It was the first defeat for the Black & Reds this season following a run of 51 unbeaten competitive matches.

Placente ahead of Europa League final: "Of course I'll be there in my heart!"
Ahead of the UEFA Europa League final against Atalanta, Diego Placente spoke to bayer04.de about the match in Dublin and also looked ahead to the second final this week in the DFB Pokal in Berlin on Saturday evening against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The Argentinian, who is now the Albiceleste's youth coach, played for the Black & Reds in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League, the Werkself's last European final to date.
